The Bee Roadzz

The story of the Bee Roadzz

This pollinator-supporting project began in 2016 with a film screening of ‘The Vanishing of the Bees’ which inspired some thinking about joining up local landscapes to create richer and more connected habitat for all insect life.

Two of our blog posts give more detail about the setting up of the project and its subsequent links with the national Buglife B-Lines project.

Buzzing down the Bee Roadzz

Saving Marlborough’s Bees

The project was presented at the Oxford Real Farming Conference in 2020 and articles published about it in both Permaculture Magazine and UK Bee Craft magazine.

Many talks, stalls and presentations were shared to gardening clubs, WI groups, horticultural socieites, beekeeper groups and more.  You can view one of those presentations, in full, with this video taken at Woodley allotments group, near Reading in 2020.

We made another short film with the farmers of Space for Nature on the Marlborough Downs, highlighting the landscape scale contribution they are making.

A third film, offers a recording of a webinar we produced on planting and managing wildflower meadows.

Our Current Plans

Due to both sad bereavements and the natural shift of some members to different locations in the country, plus the challenges of the pandemic years, our core team at Transition Marlborough took a step back for a while on this project.

But it has continued in Swindon, energised by the indomitable Glynis Hales.  The bulb planting by Space for Nature was also replicated, at large scale, in 2025 by the North Wessex Downs Landscape Trust.

Coupled with recent requests to tell the story again through presentations at gardening and horticultural groups, the Bee Roadzz looks set for a renaissance.
